Research Interests
Research on leaf mimicry in butterflies
Current research projects
Mimicry provides a representative example of evolutionary adaptation. One of the most extraordinary phenomena is leaf mimicry (masquerade) in butterfly wings, which Wallace has described as the most wonderful and undoubted case of protective resemblance. We performed whole-genome resequencing in leaf mimicry butterflies and their relative species. By conducting phylogenetic and population genetics analysis, we explored the possible evolutionary scenarios in leaf mimicry butterflies, especially in Kallima genus. Meanwhile, by applying GWAS analysis, we characterized the gene that controls leaf wing polymorphism in Kallima inachus, and explored expression and evolution of this gene.
